To mark the 8th centenary of the consecration of St Clare of Assisi (1211- 2011), the author of this article evaluates the most important studies on the Rule of St Clare, published in the last hundred years. The starting point is the work of Livarius Oliver (1912), in which were drawn in a clear way the great steps, carried out in the legal institutional itinerary during the composition of the Rule. The growing and rich output of studies has been put in order by the author of this essay in three sections, according to the most recurrent approaches, namely, the legal-institutional one, the spiritual theology ad those focused on some special aspect of the document. Apart from the value of the conclusive considerations, this work may be useful as a starting point to later studies on the subject.
